Lively Letters - Phonemic Awareness and Phonics effectively trains crucial reading, spelling, and pronunciation skills in English. Unlike other phonics apps, this one focuses on actual teaching instead of mindless drilling. Its proven strategies include memory tricks, visual and auditory cues, entertaining stories in both English and Spanish, colorful character illustrations embedded into letters, and catchy songs. This multisensory and structured approach has been proven to benefit learners of all ages and abilities, including those who struggle with English as a second language. The app targets phonemic awareness, phonics, and speech production based on the world-renowned Lively Letters program by Nancy Telian, MS, CCC-SLP and published by Reading with TLC. With a track record of over 15 million students and 75 thousand teachers worldwide since 1990, the Lively Letters program is known for its ability to expedite skill development.

Created by Penny Castagnozzi and Nancy Telian, this long-awaited app can be used independently or as a supplement to the Lively Letters program materials. It is also suitable for individuals with no previous experience with Lively Letters. While many aspects of the app are self-guided for students, it is recommended to have some instructor or parental involvement for optimal results. Certain adults and older students may be able to utilize the app independently. Features of the app include progress monitoring and three interactive activities: Flashing, Tracking, and Matching. Users can choose which letters to focus on (including Lively Letters pictures or plain letters, lowercase or uppercase) and also have the option to record and playback their own voices.

Flashing: This activity introduces, drills, and tests the letter-sound associations for the 44 English speech sounds using the renowned multisensory cueing methods of Lively Letters. As the chosen letters flash on the screen, students can listen to the associated sound, sing along with the song, and follow the story narrated in English by Marianne Nice, MS, CCC-SLP or in Spanish by Angela Livingston, MS, CCC-SLP, TSSLD, BE. Students can also view photos of hand and mouth cues and practice writing.

Tracking: Engage in powerful Lively Letters manipulative word play activities that simultaneously enhance phonemic awareness and phonics skills while reinforcing letter sounds and speech production. Students have fun building crucial skills like sound blending, segmenting, and manipulation while learning to decode and spell words of increasing difficulty. In response to prompts from the instructor or parent, students read and spell new words based on letter or sound changes explained by the instructor. The activity also offers a game called "Human - Alien" where students differentiate between real and nonsense words. Additional uses of the Tracking Activity include receptive drilling, handwriting practice, spelling dictation, identifying letter patterns, and syllable division.

Matching: This playful activity allows students to practice letter-sound associations and speech production skills. They can also strengthen their ability to associate uppercase letters with lowercase letters and transition from Lively Letters pictures to plain letters. By playing the classic Match Game with selected letters and letter types, students will enjoy an engaging learning experience.
